Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking experienced Cashiers for their store in Cavendish Square, Claremont. The role involves supporting customer service at the point of sale and ensuring a world-class shopping experience by accurately recording customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system, adhering to company policies and standard operating procedures, with a focus on minimizing inaccuracies and fraud risk.
Essential Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier/till operations
- Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office
- Strong numerical skills
- Proficient in English
- Basic customer service skills
- Willingness to work retail hours
Job Responsibilities:
- Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
- Build professional relationships with customers
- Report customer feedback to Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Maintain the customer turnover hourly rate
- Stay informed about current sales and promotions
- Ensure safety of colleagues and customers
- Implement Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles
- Manage cash flow responsibly
- Obtain approval for line voids and price changes from a supervisor
- Process exchanges and returns as authorized
- Handle all types of payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, etc.)
- Process loyalty cards from Dis-Chem and partners (Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks)
- Follow SOPs for placing cash in the drop safe
- Ensure your code and password are secure and changed regularly
- Scan and process all outgoing stock/items/scripts
- Safeguard and manage money within the till
- Handle daily takings confidentially and discuss only with management
- Recognize and report suspicious behavior
- Address customer queries about store merchandise
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures
Competencies:
Essential:
- Knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers
- Ability to process sales, refunds, and payments
- Proficient in English (written and oral)
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Presentable with strong emotional intelligence and social awareness
- Accountability and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze basic reports
- Trustworthy, honest, and good time management
Advantageous:
- Knowledge of a third additional language
Special Conditions of Employment:
