Introduction
Ubunye Game Lodge is privately owned game & guest lodge situated between Bela-Bela (Warmbaths) and Thabazimbi in the foothills of the Waterberg Mountains, and is seeking to employ an experienced Hospitality Manager.
Duties of this position include managing all lodge operations, overseeing and managing staff, and providing support to our General Manager. The ideal candidate needs to have 5-6 years’ experience in a similar role, have strong managerial skills, attention to detail, well-organized and excellent with time management.
A member of the PHASA and hunting experience will be an advantage.
The successful candidate will be required to stay on the lodge premises.
Duties & Responsibilities
Operations Management:
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the lodge;
- Ensuring the smooth functioning of various departments, such as front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, food and beverage, and activities;
- Developing and implementing standard operating procedures;
- Managing budgets and financial aspects of the lodge;
- Maintaining inventory and ordering supplies.
Guest Services:
- Ensuring high-quality guest experiences and satisfaction;
- Handling guest enquiries, requests, and complaints;
- Resolving issues promptly and maintaining a positive guest relations environment;
- Managing guest reservations, check-in/check-out processes, and room assignments;
- Providing information and recommendations about lodge.
Staff Management and Training:
- Recruiting, hiring, and training lodge staff;
- Scheduling and supervising employees;
- Conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback;
- Motivating and maintaining a productive and positive work environment;
- Coordinating staff activities and ensuring efficient teamwork.
Facility Maintenance:
- Overseeing regular maintenance and repairs of lodge facilities, including rooms, public areas, and outdoor spaces;
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations;
- Managing relationships with external contractors and suppliers;
- Implementing and monitoring preventive maintenance programs;
- Managing energy efficiency and environmental sustainability initiatives.
Sales and Marketing:
- Developing and implementing marketing strategies to attract guests and increase bookings.
- Establishing partnerships and maintaining relationships with travel agents, tour operators, and local businesses.
- Monitoring market trends and competitors to make strategic decisions.
- Participating in promotional activities, trade shows, and industry events.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintaining records and documentation related to guests, staff, and operations;
- Handling correspondence, emails, and phone calls;
- Managing reservations systems and property management software;
- Compiling reports and preparing presentations for management or ownership;
- Ensuring compliance with regulations, licenses, and permits.
General:
- Collection of catering orders;
- Set-up of spit;
- Making fire and prepare set-up for guests;
- Communicating stock that needs to be ordered with Head Office
- Receive stock upon deliveries;
- Stocktake and inventory management;
- Collections and drop-offs on behalf of General Manager;
- Attend to an emergency or first-aid situation;
- Assist with slaughtering;
- Assist with wood cutting and wood packing processes;
- Carry out ad hoc tasks as assigned by the General Manager;
- Assist with routine repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery .
Security:
- Daily checks of security, locks, gates, and safety of lodge;
- Look out for any suspicious activities on the properties.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- 5+ years’ relevant hospitality management experience;
- Able to communicate and report to senior management on a regular basis in line with company requirements;
- Must be willing to work long and irregular hours;
- Professional verbal & written communication skills;
- Must be fluent in English and Afrikaans;
- Valid Drivers’ License;
- First Aid training will be an advantage.
